What this means
Canvas is the name ChatGPT and Gemini use for a side-by-side editor in the chat. You draft prose or code, the model edits it, and you stay in that product.
Claude uses a different name for a similar idea: Artifact.
Why it matters
A Canvas file is for work inside the chat. A hosted app is a public page on your account. Those jobs overlap while you draft. They diverge when you need a URL that is not the chat.
How it works here
Calculator Tools does not embed ChatGPT Canvas. If you want the ChatGPT conversation to publish a live app, use a custom GPT or MCP.
